Bolts are tools used to fasten and secure the faces of assemblies. They are threaded and come with a matching nut. Their purpose is to connect aligned unthreaded holes by being placed through the aligned holes and secured with the bolt’s nut.

Description

Applications:

High load-bearing requirements: Typically used in applications where there’s a significant load or stress that needs to be supported. They’re ideal for situations where strength and stability are paramount

Types:

Some bolt types include hex head bolts, square head bolts, u bolts, and eye bolts. Some nut types include coupling nuts, flange nuts, square nuts, and cap nuts. This guide will tell you about more than 30 different types of bolts and nuts and washers, as well as some of their applications.

The type which is mostly used.

The hexagonal head bolt is much more commonly utilized given the prevalence of tool options such as socket sets, but many tools can still be used to tighten square head bolts.

Bolt and screw:

A bolt is meant to be used with a nut, and it is tightened by torquing the nut. A screw is designed to be used in either a preformed or threaded hole, or it is capable of forming its own threaded hole. A screw is designed to be tightened by torquing the head.

Type 3 bolts:

A Type 3 ASTM F3125 structural bolt covers weathering steel structural fasteners. These high-strength fasteners possess atmospheric corrosion resistance and weathering properties. This means that Type 3 structural bolts are designed to weather and rust over time, but not corrode.

Type 2 bolts:

TYPE 1 Medium carbon, carbon boron, or medium carbon alloy steel.
TYPE 2 Withdrawn November 1991.
TYPE 3 Weathering steel.
T Fully threaded A325. (Restricted to 4 times the diameter in length)
M Metric A325.

Bolt as a screw.

In this context, a ‘screw’ refers not to the head type or application of a fastener, but to the presence of a rotating helical shaft. If this definition is used, then all threaded fasteners fall under the archetypal definition of screws, with a bolt simply being a subtype of screw.

Standard bolt:

The two basic types of standard bolts in use today are the Unified National fine thread bolt and the Unified National coarse thread bolt. For standard bolts, the pitch of the thread is expressed in threads per inch or TPI. A standard fine thread bolt is only a little finer than a standard coarse thread metric bolt.

Origination:

Metric nuts and bolts are commonly referenced using ‘M’ sizes, for example M3, M8, M12. However, the size of a metric fastener is more accurately specified using diameter, pitch, and length dimensions, in millimeters. For nuts, the size dimensions used are simply diameter and pitch.

Measure bolt size:

To determine bolt diameter, measure the distance from the outer thread on one side to the outer thread on the other side. This is called major diameter. Alternatively, you can measure the bolt shank diameter. The shank is known as the body or sometimes, the shoulder.

Great product at a fair price. Fast shipping. I used these to attach my running board on my truck. They were the correct size and exactly what I ordered.
