dL stands for Door Lock. LG’s own documentation states the code appears when the washer cannot lock its lid correctly, and that the machine then stops as a safety measure.

LG lists two things to check before replacing anything:

1. Debris in the lock. Detergent residue, lint or small items caught in the latch stop the lid closing fully. Clear it, close the lid firmly and restart.
2. Humidity. A machine installed in a damp, poorly ventilated room exposes the lock’s internals to constant moisture, which LG says may damage them. Worth knowing in Saudi Arabia, where washing machines are frequently installed in enclosed service rooms with no extraction.

If the latch is clear and the code persists, the lock assembly itself has failed. LG’s advice at that point is to book a technician. The part is this one, and you can fit it yourself.

The red cord – what it is for

The red cord on this assembly is the manual release. If the lid locks with laundry inside and the machine will not release it, the cord opens the latch mechanically without power.

Disconnect the machine from the mains first. Reaching the release means opening the top panel, and the machine must be unplugged before you do. If you are not comfortable doing this, call a technician, the release is a convenience, not a reason to work inside a live appliance.

Q1. My LG washer shows DL. Is this the right part?

Almost certainly, once you have done LG’s first check. Clear any debris from the latch, close the lid firmly and restart. If dL returns with the latch clean, the lock assembly has failed and this is the replacement.

Q2. Will this fit my LG front load machine?

No. This is a 16 V DC lid lock for top loaders. A front loader uses a 250 V thermal door interlock, a completely different component with different mounting and wiring. We stock those separately.
