What a Door Interlock Does
The door interlock does two jobs. It holds the door shut mechanically during the cycle, and it sends an electrical signal to the control board confirming the door is secured.
The control board will not start a cycle until it receives that signal. This is why a failed interlock looks like a whole-machine fault: the door appears closed, the machine has power, but nothing happens and an error code appears.
⚠️ Read this before you buy: a two-minute delay is normal
This is a PTC-type interlock. Current heats a thermal element during the cycle, which expands and locks the door. When the cycle ends, the element needs roughly two minutes to cool before the door releases.
A door that stays locked for two minutes after the cycle is working exactly as designed. Simply wait.
It becomes a fault if the door stays locked more than five minutes after the cycle with the machine switched off, or if a cycle never starts despite the door being shut.

Compatibility and Model Matching
The ROLD DKS01A is documented as fitting selected models from Ariston, Hotpoint, Hotpoint-Ariston, Indesit, Whirlpool and Bauknecht. Among Ariston and Hotpoint machines it is commonly associated with the AQ1, AQ7, AQD, AQS and AQX series.
Cross-reference numbers
If your old interlock or your machine’s parts list carries any of these, this is likely the correct part:
- C00299278
- C00264161
- C00305602
- C00294848
- 482000023424
- 482000030694
- 482000089678
Important: DKS01A covers more than one variant
The DKS01A designation is used across several article codes. This unit is article 35612. A different article code may differ in mounting, latch geometry or terminal arrangement.
Send us a photo of your old interlock and your machine’s model number and we will confirm fitment in writing before shipping.
How to Tell Whether This Is the Right Part
- Read the label on your existing interlock. If it says ROLD DKS01A, compare the article code against 35612.
- Find your machine’s model number on the label inside the door frame or on the rear panel.
- Count the terminals. This unit has three.
- Compare the housing shape and mounting bracket against your old part.
- Send us photos on WhatsApp if anything is unclear.
Symptoms This Interlock Resolves
- The machine will not start a cycle despite the door being firmly closed
- A door-related error code on the display
- The door will not latch and springs back when pushed
- The door stays locked long after the cycle has finished
- A clicking noise from the lock with no actual locking
- The machine stops mid-cycle and releases the door
- Water leaking around the door because it is not sealing tightly
⚠️ Check these before replacing
The lock cavity: fabric, a button or a clip lodged there stops the catch entering fully.
The door catch: if broken or bent, the fault is in the door, not the lock.
The door hinge: a loose hinge drops the door so the catch no longer aligns. Common on older machines, and a new lock will not fix it.
The wiring connector: check for corrosion or looseness.
A similar symptom does not always mean the interlock has failed.
If the Door Is Locked With Laundry Inside
- Wait a full five minutes. The thermal element needs time to cool.
- Unplug for one minute and reconnect to reset the control circuit.
- Confirm the water has drained. Many machines refuse to open with water inside as a safety measure.
- Look for the emergency release behind the lower filter panel.
- Never force the door. Breaking the door or hinge turns a small problem into a large one.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. My door won’t open after the cycle, is the lock faulty?
Probably not. This interlock is designed to hold the door for roughly two minutes while its thermal element cools. Wait five minutes first. If it stays locked beyond that with the machine off, then investigate.
Q2. The machine won’t start even though the door is shut. Why?
The control board needs the interlock’s confirmation signal before starting. If the door latches but nothing happens, the signal circuit inside the interlock may have failed, though a damaged catch or a loose hinge can produce the same symptom.
Q3. Does it fit my Ariston machine?
It fits selected Ariston, Hotpoint-Ariston and Indesit models, commonly in the AQ1, AQ7, AQD, AQS and AQX series. Send us your machine model number and a photo of the old interlock and we will confirm.
Q4. Do I need to match the original part number exactly?
Match it if you can. If your part number appears in our cross-reference list above, this is likely correct. If it does not, send us the number and we will check rather than guess.
Q5. What does 16(6)A 250V mean?
The contacts are rated for 16 amps on a resistive load and 6 amps on an inductive load, at 250 volts AC. It describes the switching capacity of the contacts.
Q6. Can the interlock be repaired?
No. It is a sealed unit and the thermal element is not separately serviceable. Replacement is the correct fix.
Q7. Can I fit it myself?
Possible with basic experience. The job involves releasing the metal clamp on the rubber door seal and refitting it securely, any error there causes leaking. If you are not confident, use a technician.
Q8. Is there bulk pricing?
Yes, for appliance repair companies, facilities management and laundries. Contact us with your quantity.
