The rule is simple: the lower the application temperature, the lighter the oil (B08). The higher the load and heat, the heavier the oil (B04). B09 is the balanced middle, with the dielectric strength that matters for semi-hermetic compressors.

Hanbell HBR-B04 (China)
China Hanbell B04 are the heaviest in the family (215.9 cSt) with the highest flash point (271°C). For applications running under high thermal load and operating pressure, exactly the Saudi rooftop in summer.
Hanbell HBR-B08 (China & Taiwan)
The lightest oil in the range (131 cSt) with the lowest pour point in the family (−36.5°C), so it stays fluid and returns to the compressor in low-temperature refrigeration and cold rooms. Available in both Chinese-origin Hanbell and Taiwanese-origin Hanbell, the same specification, so choose by supply lead time and budget.
Hanbell HBR-B09 (China & Taiwan )
The balanced viscosity (175 cSt), and the only one whose datasheet documents a 46.6 kV dielectric strength — which matters in semi-hermetic (RC2) compressors where the motor windings contact the oil directly. Stocked in both Chinese-origin and Taiwanese-origin Hanbell, the datasheet is identical, so the choice comes down to price and availability.
China or Taiwan?
A question we get often, and the honest answer: the technical spec is the same. Hanbell is a Taiwanese company with a plant in China, and oil made to a given specification meets the same standard at both sites, same viscosity, same flash point, same base.
The real difference is supply chain and price: the China plant is faster to supply and more competitive on volume, while Taiwan is the parent factory. Choose by budget and supply priority, not by a performance difference that doesn't exist in the datasheets.
Important Technical Note: All POE - Not for R22
The HBR-B series oils are all polyolester (POE) synthetic, designed for modern HFC refrigerants: R134a, R404A and R407C.
⚠️ Not for R22 systems. R22 requires mineral oil (the HBR-A series). Putting POE oil in an R22 system, or the reverse causes lubrication failure and compressor damage. This isn't a footnote; it's the most expensive mistake in this field.
