Refrigerator Defrost Timer
Freezer turned into a block of ice, and the fridge below has gone lukewarm? The compressor and the refrigerant have nothing to do with it. The culprit is the defrost timer. Send Cool.sa a photo of your old timer and we’ll confirm the exact match, no need to pay for a compressor diagnosis you don’t need.
What it actually does
Every No Frost refrigerator forms frost on its hidden evaporator. Left alone, that frost blocks the air passage and cooling stops. So every 6 to 12 running hours , the timer cuts power to the compressor and switches on the defrost heater for a few minutes to melt the ice, then resumes cooling.
A dead timer = the defrost cycle never runs = ice builds until it chokes the airflow.
A one-minute test that settles it
Slowly turn the timer's advance screw with a small screwdriver. You should hear a "click" the compressor stops and the defrost cycle begins. No click? The timer is dead.
And a near-conclusive clue: you defrosted manually, cooling improved, then the fault came back within days → the defrost cycle isn't running.
Timers by brand
We supply timers compatible with Samsung (Korean) · LG · Sanyo · Falcon · Dansat, plus the American timer (plastic and aluminium, 220V).
Approximate market range: 35 – 70 SAR depending on type and brand.
It isn't always the timer
The same symptoms can come from the defrost heater or the defrost thermostat (bimetal). It's a three-part system, have a technician check it before buying. We say this plainly so you don't buy a part that won't fix your problem.
To match the part
Send: your refrigerator model number · a photo of the old timer · the number of terminals (usually 4) and the connector shape.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. How often does the defrost cycle run?
In most No Frost refrigerators, the automatic defrost cycle runs every 6–12 hours of compressor operation and lasts for only a few minutes to melt frost from the evaporator coil.
Q2. Do all refrigerators have a defrost timer?
No. Only No Frost refrigerators use an automatic defrost timer or electronic defrost control. Older manual-defrost models do not have a defrost timer and must be defrosted manually.
Q3. Will a Samsung defrost timer fit an LG refrigerator?
Not necessarily. Always match the replacement timer to your refrigerator's model number, terminal configuration, and specifications rather than relying on the brand name alone.
