In a No Frost refrigerator there is only one source of cold, a hidden evaporator behind the freezer wall. The cold reaches the fridge compartment below through a small fan that pushes cold air down an internal duct.

Fan stops? The freezer stays cold (it's next to the evaporator) and the fridge warms up (the cold no longer reaches it). That's the whole secret.

Signs of a failed motor

• Freezer cold, fridge warm, the classic sign.
