Samsung Washing Machine Door Lock – emz Type 888.4
Door interlock for Samsung front-loading washing machines, manufactured by emz Hanauer of Germany, type reference 888.4, rated 250 V AC with three numbered terminals. emz is Samsung’s own door lock supplier, so this is the same manufacturer that builds the part fitted at the factory. In stock at Cool.sa in Riyadh and Khamis Mushait.
Key Features
- Made by emz Hanauer of Germany, the OEM supplier of Samsung washing machine door interlocks.
- Type reference 888.4 moulded into the body, the identifier a technician uses to match the old lock.
- 250 V AC, with three terminals numbered 1, 2 and 3.
- PTC thermal mechanism, no solenoid, no moving coil to burn out.
- Data-matrix code on the body for production batch traceability.
- The emz name is moulded into the plastic, not printed in ink, copies carry neither.
- We identify the correct lock from the emz type number on your old part before you buy.
- Samsung fits at least ten different interlocks across its range; we check yours before the order ships.
Samsung uses ten different door locks. Here is how to tell which you need
This is the question every spare parts site avoids. Samsung fits at least ten distinct interlocks across its washing machine range. DC34-00025D, DC34-00026A, DC34-00028A, DC34-00028B, DC64-00519D, DC64-00652D, DC64-00653A, DC64-01538A, DC64-02032A and DC97-19401A, and they are not interchangeable.
Work through these four in order:
- Read the emz type number on your old lock. Samsung’s locks are made by emz, and every one carries an emz type reference moulded or printed on the body, 854, 857, 881, 888 and so on. This is the fastest and most reliable identifier. Ours is 888.4.
- Count and check the terminals. This unit has three, numbered 1, 2 and 3. Some Samsung locks use a different count or different markings.
- Check the Samsung DC number on your machine’s rating plate, inside the door frame or behind the filter flap.
- Compare the actuator and mounting. The lever position, the square aperture and the mounting hole pattern must match your original.
Not sure? Photograph your old lock on both faces, including any emz type number, and send it to us. We confirm the match before you pay. With ten Samsung variants in circulation, this one step prevents nearly every wrong order.

Samsung part numbers – what we can and cannot confirm
We publish what we can verify. Samsung part DC34-00028A is catalogued as replacing emz reference T65888.1, the same 888 series as this component. The sub-variant differs, and we have not independently confirmed that 888.4 and 888.1 interchange.
So rather than print a part number we cannot stand behind: send us a photo of your old lock and we will tell you whether this is the correct replacement. If it is not, we stock other Samsung interlocks and will point you to the right one.
What this part does
The interlock tells the control board the door is shut and holds it shut while the drum turns. Nothing starts until its contacts close, no fill, no wash, no spin.
It works by a PTC thermal element rather than a solenoid. Power reaches the element, it heats and expands, and the latch drives home. At the end of the cycle the power is cut and the element must cool before the latch releases, which is why a Samsung front loader keeps the door shut for a short period after the programme ends. That delay is designed behaviour, not a fault.
Is the interlock actually the fault?
Points to the lock
- Door shuts and latches mechanically, but the machine will not start the programme
- No audible click from the lock when the cycle is started
- Machine fills but will not spin, with the door firmly shut
- Door stays locked indefinitely after the cycle, long after the drum has stopped
- Continuity test across the switched terminals shows an open circuit once the lock has been energised
Points to something else
- Door will not latch mechanically: Hinge, striker plate or door seal
- Machine dead, no display: Supply or main board
- Cycle completes and the door opens normally: The interlock is working
- Fault returns immediately with a new lock fitted: The wiring harness or the control board
Before you test or remove it: disconnect the machine from the mains. The interlock terminals carry 250 V during operation.
Why buy from Cool.sa
- We explain how to identify your Samsung lock instead of telling you to check your model number and leaving you there.

- We say what we cannot confirm rather than printing a part number that might be wrong.

Frequently asked questions
Q1. How do I know which Samsung door lock my machine takes?
Read the emz type number on the old lock, it is the most reliable identifier, because emz makes all of Samsung’s interlocks. Failing that, the Samsung DC number is on the rating plate inside the door frame. Send us a photo either way and we will confirm.
Q2. Will this fit my Samsung Ecobubble?
Ecobubble machines use several different interlocks depending on the model year and variant. Do not order on the product line name alone. Send us a photo of your old lock and we will tell you.
Q3. Is this a genuine part?
It is made by emz Hanauer, the German manufacturer that supplies Samsung’s door interlocks. It carries the emz name moulded into the body and an emz type reference, which copies do not.
Q4. The door stays shut for a minute or two after the wash. Is it faulty?
No. A PTC thermal interlock releases as the element cools, so a short delay at the end of every cycle is by design. A door that never releases, or that only opens after you cut power at the breaker, is a different matter.
Q5. Can I bypass the lock?
No. Bridging the interlock lets the drum spin with the door unsecured. This is the one component on a washing machine that exists purely as a safety device.
