Which Copper Size Fits My AC?
The sizes below are typical for split units, but the final reference is your unit’s installation manual or the size marked at the outdoor unit’s connections:
| AC capacity | Liquid line | Gas line |
| 9000 to 12000 BTU | 1/4 inch | 3/8 inch |
| 18000 BTU | 1/4 inch | 1/2 inch |
| 24000 BTU | 3/8 inch | 5/8 inch |
| 30000 BTU and above | 3/8 inch | 5/8 or 3/4 inch |
Mueller American or Korean Copper?
A question everyone searching for Mueller copper asks, and the honest answer: both suit air conditioning if three conditions are met:
| Condition | Why it matters |
| Soft annealed copper | Accepts bending and flaring without cracking |
| Adequate wall thickness | R410A runs at higher pressure and needs a thicker wall |
| Internal cleanliness | Dirt and moisture inside the pipe damage the compressor |
Mueller is a well known American brand and costs more. Korean ASCO copper is a reliable option at a lower price.
The difference that actually matters is not country of origin but wall thickness. Always ask for the thickness before buying, whatever the brand.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. How much is a metre of AC copper?
It depends on the size. Price per metre is the coil price divided by 15. See the price table above for each size.
Q2. What copper size suits a 24000 BTU split AC?
Typically 3/8 inch for the liquid line and 5/8 inch for the gas line, but always confirm against your unit’s installation manual or the outdoor unit’s valve sizes.
Q3. Do I need one pipe or two?
Two. A split AC needs a small liquid line and a large gas line, at the same length.
Q4. What is the difference between Mueller American and Korean copper?
Both suit air conditioning if the copper is soft annealed with adequate wall thickness. What matters is wall thickness, not country of origin, and Mueller costs more.
Q5. Is 15 metres enough for one AC?
For most domestic installations, yes, since typical runs are 3 to 7 metres. Remember you need two coils, one for each line.
